Introduction

The following examples are intended to assist users in understanding the triangular route rule, and how that is applied to journeys made within the EASY Expenses system.



Please note that the triangular route rule is only applied where this has been stipulated within your employer's Travel Expenses policy.

This rule does not apply to Consultants and SAS Doctors who have are covered by the Triangular Route plus 10 Rule.



When does the Triangular Route Rule apply?

The triangular route rule applies to journeys where an employee travels from home directly to a patient visit or meeting location that is not at the employee's normal base location.  It also applies to journeys where the employee travels directly home from a patient visit or meeting location that is not at the employee's normal base location. 


The patient visit or meeting location is referred to as the place visited.


What is the Triangular Route Rule?

The triangular route rule means that employees are reimbursed for a journey based on the lower distance of the following:


Journey Starting at Home

  • Distance from home to place visited; or
  • Distance from base to place visited.


Journey Ending at Home

  • Distance from place visited to home; or
  • Distance from place visited to base.
